Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of electrical and control systems for heavy machinery and off-highway equipment. This role is suited to a technically strong engineering leader with extensive experience in machine-level electrical architecture, control systems integration, and electrified power platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complete machine-level electrical system architecture, including control philosophy, safety circuits, and power distribution.
- Develop electrical hardware and software architecture for diesel, electric, and hybrid machinery platforms.
- Design and review electrical schematics, layout drawings, harness systems, control cabinets, and BOM documentation.
- Lead PLC programming, motor drive integration, inverter configuration, and CAN bus communication systems.
- Oversee prototype builds, bench testing, validation programmes, and on-site commissioning.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and control system faults during production and field operation.
- Ensure compliance with UKCA/CE marking, Machinery Regulations, and relevant electrical safety standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
- Support technical bids, customer meetings, and engineering documentation preparation.
- Contribute to development of internal electrical engineering standards and scalable design frameworks.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Power Electronics, or Control Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical system design for heavy machinery or off-highway equipment.
- Proven experience independently delivering full machine-level electrical systems to production release.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience leading engineering teams or technical departments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical control architecture, safety systems, power distribution, and protection systems.
- Expertise in PLC programming, motor drives, inverters, CAN bus, and industrial communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience in system testing, validation, fault diagnosis, and performance optimisation.
- Proficiency with tools such as SolidWorks Electrical, CAXA, Codesys, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong project management capability across planning, cost control, risk, change management, and delivery.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within Tier 1 construction equipment manufacturers or large OEMs.
- Exposure to electrification of heavy-duty platforms and battery-electric machinery.
- Knowledge of intelligent machine control, automation, IoT integration, or autonomous systems.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in complex product development environments.
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Heavy Machinery / Structural Design)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and technical strategy of heavy machinery products within the construction and industrial equipment sector. This role is suited to a technically strong and commercially aware engineering leader with extensive experience in structural design, hydraulic systems, and full product lifecycle development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead overall mechanical and structural design of complete machinery systems.
- Own the full product lifecycle from concept development, detailed design, prototyping, validation, and production release.
- Develop and maintain technical roadmaps aligned with company strategy and industry trends.
- Oversee structural analysis, FEA validation, fatigue assessment, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Lead prototype build, on-site commissioning, and field performance optimisation.
- Resolve complex technical issues arising from manufacturing, customer sites, and aftersales operations.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, risk assessments, and engineering change processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service teams.
- Support technical bids, client meetings, and high-level stakeholder engagement.
- Build and develop high-performing engineering teams, including mentoring and succession planning.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in heavy machinery or construction equipment design.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical leadership or engineering management.
- Strong expertise in structural mechanics, materials strength, steel structures, and welded design.
- Deep understanding of hydraulics, mechatronic integration, and heavy-duty mechanical systems.
- Proven experience delivering complex products from concept to market (0–1 product development desirable).
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent 3D CAD and simulation tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness with ability to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within Tier 1 construction equipment manufacturers.
- Exposure to electrification, hybrid systems, or alternative energy powertrains.
- Knowledge of smart machinery, automation, IoT integration, or autonomous systems.
- Experience managing engineering teams of 20+ engineers.
